Dry Eye Syndrome

dry eyeDry eye syndrome is a condition that occurs when a person doesn’t have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye.

Dry eye happens when your eyes don’t make enough tears to stay wet, or when tears of poor quality don’t work correctly. Tears are necessary for maintaining the health of the front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision. People with dry eyes may experience irritated, gritty, scratchy, burning and watery eyes. Age, gender, medical conditions, medications, and environmental conditions can cause dry eyes to develop.

The primary approaches used to manage and treat dry eyes include adding tears using over-the-counter artificial tear drops and/or prescribing medications to increase tear production and treating inflammation.
